About Socle du Monde Biennale

About the biennale

Socle du Monde was established in 2002 and is as such the oldest Danish biennal of contemporary art. The title is an homage to Piero Manzoni’s seminal sculpture by the same name, “Socle du Monde” – a central work in HEART’s collection.

Socle du Monde reflects upon a world in flux. Architectural operations, legendary artifacts, awe-inspiring installations, and thought-provoking images and audio.

The biennal celebrates Piero Manzoni by not just turning its gaze back in time, but forward to the future as well to present some of the most illustrious artists through time. Incidentally, a wide array of artworks will be exhibited which have yet to be displayed anywhere in Scandinavia.

Socle du Monde Biennale 2021 – Welcome Back My Friends to the Show That Never Ends er the 8th edition.

Socle du Monde and Herning

As a celebration of art and its deep connection to Herning, the Socle Du Monde Biennale 2021 takes place not only at HEART – Herning Museum of Contemporary Art,
but in numerous venues all over Herning City, including the Textile Museum, the Carl-Henning Pedersen & Else Alfelt’s Museum, Deep Forest Art Land, Herning Højskole, Saint Johannes Church, as well as in downtown Herning and the surrounding areas in Birk.

Socle du Monde Biennale 2021 is arranged by Tijs Visser, Maria Finders, Bruno Cora, Holger Reenberg, Lotte Korshøj, René Schmidt, and Laura Liv Weikop.
